Maund belonged to the English high society and enjoyed going in Au ( Vorarlberg) in the Bregenzerwald region on the hunt. He leased in 1888, the cooperative hunting of Au and finally the entire hunt in the back of the Bregenzerwald with the woodlands of Schoppernau, Hopfreben and Schröcken up to Baad in the small valley.

In the 1890s he bought in the municipality of Schoppernau, Hopfreben on the foothills of the Alps Ünschenberg a secluded, beautifully located building site and was it built a hunting lodge in an English country house style, which is known as Villa Maund today. The English architect ( and painters, poets, artisans, engineers and printers) William Morris had already built two similar-looking houses in the Anglo- Scottish Cottage style in Weggis on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland for Maund before 1888.
