John Owen (bishop)

John Owen ( born August 24, 1854 in Ysgubor Wen, Caernarfonshire (now Gwynedd ), † November 4, 1926 in London) was an Anglican bishop.

John Owen was born in August 1854, the son of Griffith Owen and his wife Ann. He attended Jesus College, University of Oxford in 1876 and his Bachelor of Arts (BA), and in 1879 his Master of Arts (MA).

After three years as a teacher at the Grammar School in Appleby returned to Wales Owen in 1879 and became Professor and Lecturer at St. David 's College, Lampeter. In the same year he was ordained by Bishop William Basil Jones deacon. He was ordained a priest in 1880.

Owen spent six years in Lampeter before he succeeded Alfred George Edwards as Warden (head ) of Llandovery College. As Edwards 1889 Bishop of St Asaph, was he appointed as Dean Owen. In 1892, however, Owen returned to Lampeter and was Principal of St. David 's College, which he remained until 1897. This year, namely, he was appointed Bishop of St Davids. Owen exercised the office of bishop until his death in November 1926. He was buried in Abergwili.

Since 1882 he was married to Amelia Longstaff. The marriage produced four sons and six daughters were born.
