John Philip of Hanau-Lichtenberg

Count Johann Philipp von Hanau- Lichtenberg ( * January 13, 1626 [ according to the Julian calendar ] in Buchsweiler, † December 18, 1669 in Babenhausen ) was the son of Count Philipp Wolfgang (* 1595, † 1641) and his wife, Countess Joan of Oettingen (* 1602, † 1639 ) was born. In his childhood he had to repeatedly flee with his parents from the capital city Buchsweiler to Strasbourg, where the family owned a town house from the effects of the Thirty Years War.

Together with his brother Johann Reinhard (* 1628, † 1666) was Johann Philipp sent on a grand tour through Germany, the Netherlands, England, France and Switzerland. As Nachgeborenem the house Hanau him in his father's testament and the Office Babenhausen Castle was assigned as a residence. On February 16, 1651, he married Princess Margarethe Susanna von Anhalt -Dessau (* 1610, † 1663 ). So she was a sister of Princess Sibylle Christine of Anhalt- Dessau ( * 1603, † 1686), who was the brother of Johann Philipp, the reigning Count Friedrich Casimir, second wife. The marriage of Johann Philipp and Susanne Margaret had no children. Johann Philipp quite begat children, though born out of wedlock. Detected are at least three:

  • NN, one daughter ( * after 1663 ), married to a duty manager " Cressl ";
  • NN, one son ( * after 1663 ), who bore the surname "mountain", and later got a job as an officer in the militia Hanauer;
  • NN, a second son ( * after 1663 ), which is also the last name "mountain" wore, and later also got a job as an officer in the militia Hanauer.

About the mother or the mothers of these children is not known.

1664 Johann Philipp visited the Reichstag in Regensburg, where he was taken with a Prince of Reuss in a duel. 1669 he tried his hand in a coup against his brother Friedrich Casimir, who had the county of Hanau heavily in debt and now trying to rehabilitate through the sale of territory. Therefore, the agnates stepped in against Frederick Casimir and seized in his absence in November 1669 the government. This emergency regime collapsed together but after three days and Friedrich Casimir locked in return of his brother from the city of Hanau.

Johann Philipp died shortly afterwards, on 18 December 1669 was - as well as before his wife - buried in the City Church in Babenhausen.
