John Pont

John Pont ( born November 13, 1927 in Canton, Ohio; † July 1, 2008 in Oxford, Ohio) was an American college football coach who during his career at Miami University, Yale University, Indiana University and Northwestern University was active.

Pont in his school days, was himself a halfback the team of Miami University. According to serve his military service he played pro football in Canada. From 1956 to 1962 he was the coach in Miami, after he spent one season at Yale. Pont was 1965-1972 coach at Indiana University, and in 1967 the team managed the first and only collection to the Rose Bowl, but the team defeated Southern California. This year he was honored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as Coach of the Year. He was also a member of the Cradle of Coaches Miami University, as well as the Hall of Fame of the universities of Miami and Indiana as well as the Mid- American Conference. By 1977, he was coach of the Northwestern University.

He worked after the end of his college football career as a trainer and consultant in Japan on construction of a semi- professional American football league.
