John R. Quinn

John Raphael Quinn ( born March 28, 1929 in Riverside) is an American clergyman and retired Archbishop of San Francisco.

Life

John Raphael Quinn received on 19 July 1953, the ordination to the priesthood for the Diocese of San Diego.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on October 21, 1967 Auxiliary Bishop of San Diego and Titular Bishop of Thisiduo. The Apostolic Delegate in the United States of America Luigi Raimondi gave him on 12 December of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Francis James Furey, Bishop of San Diego and Frederick William Freking, Bishop of La Crosse.

On November 30, 1971, he was appointed Bishop of Oklahoma City - Tulsa. With the elevation to an archdiocese on 13 December 1972 he was appointed Archbishop of Oklahoma City. On February 16, 1977, he was appointed Archbishop of San Francisco and introduced into the office on 26 April of the same year. From his office he resigned on 27 December 1995.
