John Stephen Cummins

John Stephen Cummins ( born March 3, 1928 in Oakland ) is Bishop Emeritus of Oakland.

Life

John Stephen Cummins received on 24 January 1953, the ordained priest for the Archdiocese of San Francisco.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 26 February 1974 Auxiliary Bishop of Sacramento and titular bishop in Lambaesis. The Bishop of Sacramento, Alden John Bell, donated to him on 16 May of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Were co-consecrators Floyd Lawrence Begin, Bishop of Oakland, and Hugh Aloysius Donohoe, Bishop of Fresno.

On 3 May 1977 he was appointed bishop of Oakland and introduced into the office on June 30th of the same year. On 1 October 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to age.
