Hugh Aloysius Donohoe

Hugh Aloysius Donohoe ( born June 28, 1905 in San Francisco; † 26 October 1987) was Bishop of Fresno and previously the first bishop of Stockton.

Life

Hugh Aloysius Donohoe received on 14 June 1930, the ordained priest for the Archdiocese of San Francisco.

Pope Pius XII. appointed him on August 2, 1947 Titular Bishop of Taium and auxiliary bishop in San Francisco. The Archbishop of San Francisco, John Joseph Mitty, donated to him on 7 October of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Honolulu, James Joseph Sweeney, and Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Arthur Connolly of San Francisco.

On January 27, 1962, he was named by Pope John XXIII. the first bishop of the newly established Diocese of Stockton.

Donohoe attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as part of a Council Father.

On August 22, 1969, he was called by Pope Paul VI. appointed bishop of Fresno. On 1 July 1980, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
