John Joseph Mitty

John Joseph Mitty ( born January 20, 1884 in New York City, USA, † October 15, 1961 ) was Archbishop of San Francisco.

Life

John Joseph Mitty received on 22 December 1906, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

On June 21, 1926, he was named by Pope Pius XI. Bishop of Salt Lake. The Archbishop of New York, Patrick Joseph Cardinal Hayes, donated to him on 8 September of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Auxiliary Bishop of New York, John Joseph Dunn, and the Bishop of Syracuse, Daniel Joseph Curley.

On January 29, 1932 he was appointed by Pope Pius XI. to Koadjutorerzbischof of San Francisco and appointed him Titular Archbishop of Aegina. The inauguration took place on 4 February of the same year. On March 2, 1935, John Joseph Mitty in succession to the retiring Edward Joseph Hanna, Archbishop of San Francisco.
