Jonah Barrington (squash player)

Jonah Barrington, MBE ( born April 29, 1941 in Morwenstow, Cornwall, England ) is a former Irish squash player.

Career

Jonah Barrington was born in Cornwall, England, but played all his life for Ireland. His greatest successes are his six title wins at the British Open, which was considered at the time as the unofficial world championship. He won the tournament for the first time in 1967 against Aftab Jawaid and defended the title in 1968 against AA Aboutaleb. In 1969, he missed the finals, but won from 1970 to 1973 titles three to six. He twice defeated Geoff Hunt, and once each Gogi Alauddin and again Aftab Jawaid.

He was inducted for his achievements in squash sport in the World Squash Hall of Fame in 1993. His son Joey Barrington is also squash professional.
