Jonathan Canter

Jonathan Canter ( born June 4, 1965 in Los Angeles, California ) is a former American professional tennis player.

Life

Canter was in 1980 at the age of 14, the youngest player to have ever been out in the world ranking of ATP. He stood in 1982 at the semifinals of the doubles competition of the junior tournament at Wimbledon, in the doubles final of the junior tournament, the French Open and won along side Michael Kurin the double title of Junior tournament of the U.S. Open. In individual he also penetrated in these three tournaments in each case before the quarter-finals.

In 1983 he became a professional tennis player, but initially was unable to repeat his success from the junior level. In 1985 he succeeded notable success; he stood in the quarter-finals of Tokyo and Hong Kong and was able to celebrate in December his greatest success on the ATP World Tour, when he won the grass tournament in Melbourne. This should, however, remain his only individual title. Although he reached the semi-finals the following year of Halle tournament of Toronto and the semi-finals at the Canadian Masters ( where he lost to the eventual champion Boris Becker), in the episode but he played mostly on the ATP Challenger Tour. There, in a single pass him, although no tournament wins, but he was able to achieve between 1990 and 1993 three Challenger doubles title. Its highest listing in the tennis world ranking he reached position 36 in the individual and in 1990 with position 84 in a double 1986.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round, which he achieved in all four tournaments. In the doubles competition, he reached the second round at Wimbledon and in each case at the U.S. Open. 1991 he also went to the mixed, where he reached the second round at the side of Alysia May.
