Jonathan Santana

Jonathan Santana Ghere (* October 19, 1981 in Buenos Aires, Argentina ) is an Argentine- Paraguayan football player.

Life

Association

Santana began his career in 1998 in the Argentine third division at CA San Telmo, from its youth team he comes. After one year at second division club Almagro, he joined in the summer of 2001 in the Primera División to San Lorenzo de Almagro. With the capital club, he won the Copa Mercosur in the same year. But as he in the team still could not prevail, and in the first year was only three times in the league for use, he was loaned to the neighboring club unterklassigen CA Nueva Chicago, where he became a regular player. After his return in the summer of 2003 he was also a regular fixture in central midfield at San Lorenzo. In summer 2005, he moved again within Buenos Aires Argentinean giants River Plate.

After a year there, Santana left Argentina and went to the 2006/07 season after the German first division club VfL Wolfsburg Europe. The change came about because of a collaboration agreement between the two clubs, which has existed since 2004. In the first two years of the Argentine admittedly came regularly in the Bundesliga for use, but could not prevail as master players. He came in two years there on 28 missions, of which he only played through 16. After the third year suggested a similar course of the season, he moved to the winter break of the 2008/2009 season on loan back to his native country to his former club San Lorenzo.

Santana joined in the 2010/11 season in Turkey to Kayserispor. After one and a half years in Turkey moved to his native Paraguay for Club Libertad until the end of the season of 2012. Was followed by the return to his home and native Argentina, for one year at Independiente Avellaneda, Since 2013 he plays for Belgrano Cordoba.

National

In June 2007, Santana took, whose mother is from Paraguay, next to the Argentine and Paraguayan citizenship to play for the national team of Paraguay, for which he ran aground in the Copa América 2007. Also Santana was appointed for the final squad of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, in which he, however, only sporadically was used. Santana resigned from Paraguay in the quarterfinals. Paraguay could be defeated only by the eventual champions Spain just 1-0 after both sides had fired a penalty kick out of the game.
