Jonathon Power

Jonathon Tyler Power ( born August 9, 1974 in Comox ) is a retired Canadian professional squash player. In 1998 he was World Champion and was the first world number one from North America.

Career

Power began with seven years of playing squash and was 16 years old professional. In 1991 he went into the professional tour of the PSA, where he won a total of 36 tournaments up to end of his career and stood in 22 other finals. His greatest success was winning the World Cup 1998. Moreover, he could once the British Open (1999), twice the PSA Super Series, three times the PSA Masters and four times the Tournament of Champions decide for themselves. At the 2002 Commonwealth Games he also captured a gold medal in singles. With the Canadian national team, he participated in numerous World Championships, including 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. 1997, he was together with Gary Waite and Graham Ryding Vice World Champion.

Power was considered one of the greatest players shot the squash history, as the deadly ball into Nick ( corner between the side wall and floor) was his best stroke in the repertoire. In the audience he was very popular, which was mainly due to his emotional outbursts and discussions with the referees, which is why he was often compared with the tennis player John McEnroe. In addition, Powers rivalry with the British Peter Nicol was next to that of Jansher and Jahangir Khan as one of the most famous and longest in the history.
