Jorge Mayer

Jorge Mayer ( born November 20, 1915 in San Miguel Arcángel, Argentina, † December 25, 2010 in Bahia Blanca, Argentina) was Archbishop of Bahía Blanca.

Life

Jorge Mayer came from, as well as the bishops Enrique Rau and Alejandro Schell, from a colony of German immigrants ( Colonia San Miguel Arcángel ) in the Province of Buenos Aires. He studied at the Pontifical Latin American Group " Pius " philosophy and theology and canon law at the Gregorian. On March 23, 1940, he received the priesthood in Rome. He was pastor of Coronel Pringles and later at the Cathedral of Bahia Blanca. Mayer has held important offices in the diocesan administration.

Pope Pius XII. appointed him on 13 March 1957 to the first bishop of Santa Rosa. The Archbishop of Bahía Blanca, Germiniano Esorto, donated to him on 9 June of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Manuel Marengo, Bishop of Azul, and Enrique Rau, Bishop of Mar del Plata. On 29 June of that year he was introduced formally into office.

At the Second Vatican Council, Mayer participated as a Council Father.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 31 May 1972 Archbishop of Bahía Blanca and on 21 July of that year he was introduced formally into office. In 1987, Pope John Paul II guest in Bahia Blanca.

On May 31, 1991 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.

Jorge Mayer died on December 25, 2010 and was buried in the Nuestra Señora de La Merced Cathedral in Bahía Blanca.
