José Batista

José Alberto Batista González ( born March 6, 1962 in Colonia del Sacramento ) is a former Uruguayan football player and later coach. Batista became famous in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where he received a red card in the match against Scotland after 56 seconds of referee Joel Quiniou. This was the fastest red card in the history of soccer world championships. The game ended 0-0. Uruguay moved so that a first knockout round.

Career as a football player

Association

Batista played for a number of clubs in Uruguay and Argentina. At the beginning of his career, at least from 1981 and 1983 standing in rows of Club Atlético Cerro, he played at least in the years 1984 and 1985 at CA Peñarol. In 1985, Batista went to Argentina, where he was engaged by Deportivo Español. He debuted on July 21, 1985 in a 1-0 win on Matchday 3 against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. During his time with the Argentines, he completed 311 Erstligapartien and 23 encounters in the Nacional B. He scored a total of 20 goals, 19 of them in the highest Argentine league. In 1993, he had to take a long break after an injury. In 1995, he returned briefly to Uruguay and played for Rampla Juniors. Already in the same year he joined the Argentine club Gimnasia y Esgrima CA de Jujuy, where he remained until 1997, but eventually had to take a break due to injury again. 1998/99 was followed by 17 games ( one goal) for Deportivo Español in the Primera B Metropolitana. 1999 to 2001 he was one of Quilmes in the Argentine second division.

National

Batista was in 1981 with the Uruguayan U -20 South American champions on the side of players like Adolfo Barán, Santiago Ostolaza, Jorge da Silva and Enzo Francescoli. Also at the Junior World Cup 1981, he was nominated for Uruguay Juniorennationalelf and came in two group games to train. With the Uruguayan selection also he represented his country at the Pan American Games in 1983, where she won the Celeste football tournament. During the tournament he played three games and scored one goal. Between 1984 and 1993 he played 14 times for the Uruguayan national team. At his first appearance he was doing on September 19, 1983 in Montevideo, in a friendly match against Peru. In qualifying for the Football World Cup 1986 in Mexico Batista marked the 2-1 victory at home win over Chile. It was Batista's only goal in the national team.
