José Manuel Pando

José Manuel Inocencio Pando Solares (* December 27 1848 in Luribay in the department of La Paz, † June 17, 1917 in Kenko at El Alto), was President of Bolivia in the period from October 25, 1899 to August 14, 1904.

After a six-year medical degree, he joined after the revolution of December 1870 in the military. After the coup of Hilarion Daza, he moved in 1876 into private life, to re-enter just four years later in Chile saltpeter against the army and to lead a Bolivian artillery regiment until 1884.

In the 1880s he joined the Liberal Party in ( Partido Liberal ), which he headed from 1894 and maintained until his assassination.

The Bolivian department of Pando is now called in honor of José Manuel Pando, as well as the province of José Manuel Pando in the department of La Paz
