José Omar Pastoriza

José Omar Pastoriza (* May 23, 1942 in Rosario, † August 2, 2004 in Buenos Aires; Nickname: El Pato ) was an Argentine football player and football coach.

During his active career was Pastoriza midfielder and joined with the Argentine national team at the 1966 World Cup. He stood at the Racing Club Avellaneda, Independiente and the AS Monaco under contract. As a coach, he worked with 13 teams in six countries, especially in club teams in Latin America. Pastoriza was the uncle of Diego Forlán.

Playing career

Born in 1942 in Rosario, province of Santa Fe, Pastoriza played in the youth teams of Rosario Central and CA Colón. His professional career began in 1964 with Racing Club Avellaneda.

From January 1966 Pastoriza played for Racing's rivals Independiente, with whom he celebrated his greatest successes as a player: Three times he won the Argentine championship with Independiente and one Copa Libertadores. In total he played 184 games for Independiente and scored 32 goals. In 1966 he took part in the World Cup in England but did not play. In 1971 he was elected to the Argentine Footballer of the Year.

1972 moved Pastoriza the French second division club AS Monaco, with whom he rose in 1973 in the Division 1 and 1974 reached the final of the French Cup. In 1975 he finished his playing career at Monaco.

Coaching career

In his career as a football coach, which he began in 1976, José Pastoriza worked for eleven clubs and two national teams in six countries. Several times he was engaged at CA Independiente and CA Talleres in his native Argentina, in addition he also worked in Colombia, Brazil, Spain and Bolivia and coached the team selection of El Salvador'und Venezuela.

His successes as a coach is one of the multiple winning the Argentine championship with Independiente.

Until his death in 2004 in Buenos Aires at the age of 62 years Pastoriza worked as a football coach.
