Millonarios Fútbol Club
The Millonarios Fútbol Club, to April 2011, known as Club Deportivo Los Millonarios is a Colombian football club based in Bogotá.
The club colors are blue and white. The games against Santa Fe are considered as "el clásico de Bogotá " and are a highlight of the Colombian football calendar.
History
The club was founded in its present form on June 18, 1946 grew out of the 1937 -founded football club Deportivo Municipal. The most successful period was the club in the early 1950s with players such as Alfredo Di Stéfano. In December 1951, the "Blue Ballet" was the first Colombian team to win against an Argentine team ( 3-1 against Racing Club Avellaneda ). In March 1952 Real Madrid was defeated at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu 4-2. It was the first victory of a Colombian teams in Europe. In the following years Millonarios completed more often games in Europe and thus received the nickname " Los Embajadores " ( " The Ambassadors ").
1949 CD Los Millonarios won the first Colombian championship. This was followed by a further twelve championships and two cup wins (1953, 1963). From May to November 1999, the team remained unbeaten in 29 matches. The club participated in all four tournaments around the Copa Merconorte. After being in 2000 still failed to Atlético Nacional in the finals, Millonarios in 2001 was able to win the title.
For several years, the club is in financial difficulty. The economic problems also led to lack of sporting success. In April 2011 the club was renamed to Millonarios Fútbol Club. In October of the Millonarios won in the final two games of the Pokalwettbwerbes against Boyacá Chicó FC respectively 1-0 and thus won the first title in more than 20 years.
In the return series in 2012 Millonarios won its first league title since 1988.
Stadium
The home of the Millonarios is the Estadio Nemesio Camacho, opened in 1938 ( " El Campin " ) in Bogotá with a capacity of 46,018 seats.
