Josef Matouš

Josef Matous ( born January 6, 1942 in Poděbrady ) is a former Czechoslovakian ski jumper.

Career

His international debut Matous at the Bohemian jumping tournament in 1961, he could win. In the Four Hills Tournament 1962/63 he jumped in Oberstdorf on the Schattenbergschanze surprising at first to rank 15th After a good 20th place in Innsbruck he landed in Garmisch -Partenkirchen and Bischofshofen in the squares 12 and 18 This placed after completion of the tour with 742.3 points on the excellent 10th place overall. In 1963, he won for the second time the Bohemian knight tour. In the Four Hills Tournament 1963/64, he was unable to match these services. After three weak jump he reached only 46th overall.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1964, which were also seen as Nordic World Ski Championships, Matous missed by Toni- Seelos- Olympic hill in Seefeld in Tirol barely a medal and finished fourth. From the large hill in Innsbruck, he was ranked 22 in 1964, he won the Cortina Trophy, an international competition in Cortina d' Ampezzo.

In the Four Hills Tournament 1964/65 he started only in Oberstdorf, reaching thereby the 12th Place. Although he competed in any of the other three competitions, Matous reached in the overall standings in 15th place in 1965, he won the first international friendly tournament called the Eastern Bloc countries, including Three Hills Tournament. In the same year he also won the international competition in Semmering. His most successful tour, he played a year later with the Four Hills Tournament 1965/66. After he landed here in Oberstdorf in eighth place, he could at the Grand Olympic ski jump in Garmisch -Partenkirchen also jump in eighth place. In Innsbruck on the Bergiselschanze he ended up in fourth place and just narrowly missed his first podium. Finally, on the Paul Ausserleitner hill in Bischofshofen, he landed only a disappointing 40th place. He missed a better result in the overall standings and finished only ninth. Despite this good result, he placed after the tour, a two -year tour - pause.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1966 in Oslo, he finished the competition on the large hill to the 41st place. In 1967 he won the Tatra Cup.

In the Four Hills Tournament 1968/69 Matous reached in Oberstdorf with third place his first podium in the tour. After Rank 12 in Garmisch- Partenkirchen, ranked 11 in Innsbruck, he finished the tour without starting in Bischofshofen 47th overall. At the Sapporo International he won 1969 jumping on the large hill. In the Four Hills Tournament 1969/70 he landed on the Schattenbergschanze again in third place. In Garmisch -Partenkirchen he had the chance of a podium again, but this just missed fourth. However, it was his last top-10 place in the career. The tour he finished in 12th place overall. When shortly afterwards held Nordic World Ski Championships 1970 took Strbske Pleso Matous on the normal hill in 48th place. From the large hill he was ranked 13th in the same year he also won the International Ski Flying week.

After a year break Matous started again at the Four Hills Tournament 1971/72. However, He achieved his best result with number 23 in Oberstdorf. All other jumping verlieferen unsuccessful. In the overall standings, he ended up with number 49 on the worst overall ranking of his career. In 1972 he won the Beskid Cup. In his final Four Hills Tournament 1973/74 he was able to once again improve significantly and reached two top -20 finishes, including 11th place in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. In the overall standings, he stood at 823.1 points at the end of the tour at No. 23

In his career Matous won a total of five national titles.
