Joseph Lightfoot

Joseph Barber Lightfoot ( born April 13, 1828 in Liverpool, † December 12, 1889 in Bournemouth ) was a British theologian and Anglican Bishop of Durham.

Lightfoot was a member of Trinity College, Cambridge University. In 1861 he became professor of divinity Hulsean and 1875 Lady Margaret professor at Cambridge.

In 1879 he became bishop in Durham. Brooke Foss Westcott His friend, with whom he developed new methods of biblical scholarship, became his successor.
