Joseph Raphael John Crimont

Joseph Raphael John Crimont SJ ( born February 2, 1858 in Ferrieres, France, † May 20, 1945 ) was Vicar Apostolic of Alaska.

Life

Joseph Crimont received on August 26, 1888 Sacrament of Holy Orders. Then the Jesuits came in and put on 2 February 1894, the religious profession.

Pope Pius X appointed him on 28 March 1904 Prefect Apostolic of Alaska. After the Prefecture was raised in December 1916 the Vicariate Apostolic appointed Pope Benedict XV. Crimont on February 15, 1917 Vicar Apostolic of Alaska, and on 22 March of the same year, titular bishop of Ammaedara. The Archbishop of Oregon City, Alexander Christie, donated to him on July 25th of that year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Spokane, Augustine Francis Schinner, and the Bishop of Seattle, Edward John O'Dea.
