Joseph Rummel

Joseph Francis Rummel (* as Franz Joseph Rummel on October 14, 1876 in stone walls / Baden, † November 8, 1964 in New Orleans) was Archbishop of New Orleans.

Life

Joseph Rummel emigrated with his parents in 1883 in the United States. After studying theology in Rome, he received on 24 May 1902 in St. John Lateran Basilica ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of New York, USA and celebrated his first Mass in the church of St. Martin in Ettlingen.

On March 30, 1928, he was named by Pope Pius XI. Bishop of Omaha, Nebraska. The Episcopal ordination on May 29, 1928 donated it to the Archbishop of New York, Patrick Joseph Cardinal Hayes; Co-consecrators were Thomas Edmund Molloy, Bishop of Brooklyn, and John Joseph Dunn, Auxiliary Bishop of New York. The inauguration took place in the diocese of Omaha on July 4 of that year.

On March 9, 1935, he was named by Pope Pius XI. Archbishop of New Orleans. At the first session of the Second Vatican Council took some hype as a Council Father. He died in the Episcopate.

Rummel was a member of the Knights of Columbus ( Council no. 5747 ).
