Joubertina

Province

Joubertina is a place in South Africa's Eastern Cape Province. It is located in the municipality of Kou - Kamma in the Cacadu District.

Geography

Joubertina has 5,752 inhabitants ( 2011). The town lies on the River Wabooms in elongated, extending in an east-west direction Langkloof valley. The distance to the Tsitsikamma National Park on the Indian Ocean is approximately 30 kilometers. In between lie the Tsitsikamma Mountains to the 1,675 meter high peak Formosa. North of Joubertina extend the Kouga Mountains.

History

The town was founded in 1907 and named after WA Joubert, a pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church in the western Uniondale.

Economy and Transport

Fruit production, particularly of apples, is the main source of income. There are also tourism.

Joubertina is located on the touristic marketed regional road " Route 62 " between Oudtshoorn and Humansdorp. West of the town is a small airfield ( ICAO code FAJP ). Joubertina is located on the Avontuur Railway, the longest narrow gauge railway in the world with 610 mm gauge, which is rarely traveled.

Attractions

Every year in August the Bloeiselfest ( " Flower Festival " ) with which the apple blossom is celebrated.
