Jouhe

Jouhe is a commune with 582 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Jura department in the Franche -Comté; it belongs to the district Dole, the District of Rochefort -sur- Nenon and the Local Government Association, Grand Dole.

Geography

Jouhe is in the northwest of the department of Jura at an average altitude of 272 meters above sea level, about 35 kilometers south-east of Dijon, the seat of the prefecture of the department of Côte- d'Or, and 5 kilometers north of Dole, the seat of sub-prefecture of the arrondissements Dole, north of the Mont Roland. The municipality has an area of 5.96 square kilometers.

History

The Chapel of Our Lady on Mount Roland was a place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages. At the same time there was a Benedictine priory in Jouhe, who was the village. The priory was dissolved in April 1790 in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ).

1793 Jouhe received by the French Revolution the status of a municipality and 1801 by the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte ( 1769-1821) the right to local self-government. Most residents ( 669 ), the municipality had 1836 since the end of the 19th century, the population decreased. Least inhabitants ( 315), the municipality in 1962. Had from the 1980s, the population began to rise again.

Culture and sights

The choir of the parish church of Saint -Pierre is from the 16th century, the nave was renewed in 1749. The church was not one of the old priory. In the church there is a pulpit from the 18th century, decorated with reliefs. It was classified as a monument historique in 1957 ( historic monument '). Listed paintings in the church are six votive paintings from the 17th and 18th century, a painting that dates back to 1700 and represents the completion of the schism of Anacletus II by Bernard of Clairvaux, and a painting the Giuseppe Passeri (1654 -1714 ) is attributed and the collection of Bernard in Citeaux shows. Several statues are also classified as a monument historique, including eight statues from the 18th century, two statues from the 16th century and a statue of the Virgin and Child from the 12th century. The statue was brought in 1789 from the Chapel of Our Lady on Mount Roland, to prevent them from being destroyed by revolutionaries. It is the oldest pilgrim statue of its kind in the department of Jura.

In the chapel of Notre -Dame is a painting of 1631 depicting a nobleman, who kneels before the statue of the Virgin and Child, it was classified in 1975 as a monument historique.

From the castle of Jouhe just a tower from the 14th century has survived.

Infrastructure

South of the village of Jouhe runs the Autoroute A36, called La Morbier, the same road that Europe is here 60. The nearest railway station is located in Dole. The nearest airport is the Dole- Jura, which is 12.3 km away. It lies on the municipalities of Tavaux and Gevry.

There is a primary school in Jouhe. The building of the former priory are now used by the boarding school founded in 1929, Les Cedars.

Personalities

  • Beatrix of Burgundy (1140-1184), second wife of the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa; her tomb was located in the former priory.
