The children's film journey into prehistoric times ( Alternative title: journey into the prehistoric world ) is a Czechoslovakian fantasy film from the year 1955.

Action

Four boys are thinking about fossilized prehistoric animals. The youngest would love to see such an animal, and has, lived no idea of ​​the time that has elapsed since this marine animal. Therefore, the three older boys want to take with him a trip on a river that flows into a cave. And the river it actually brings back first to the last ice age. The further they shut down the flow, the more they go back in the history of the earth until they finally arrived at the ancient sea. In every age you even encounter a variety of animals and plants that lived in the respective periods.

Comments

The film gives an insight into the history of the Earth on the level of knowledge of the 1950s. When knitting technique to create the dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, among other things, the stop-motion technique, and animated effects was used. About the making of the film and a documentary was filmed.

From this film there is an American version called: Journey to the Beginning of Time ( Travel to the beginning of time). Directed by Fred Ladd from a screenplay by William Cayton additional opening scene and at the end of the film was an additional final scene. In these scenes, visit four American boys that look similar to the original Czechoslovak boy, a dinosaur exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History.

The German dubbed version refers to the original Czechoslovak version. There is both a DDR - dubbed version as well as a BRD - dubbed version. The narrator role of the FRG version was eingesprochen by Jens Wawrczeck, in the GDR version was subsequently published as a theater and film actor very popular Arno Wyzniewski.

Published in 2004 a DVD in Japan, in Germany in 2005 and 2007 in Spain, where the Japanese and Spanish figurative version different DigitalMaster have. The announced czech DVD was withdrawn due to licensing reasons. The footage of the German DVD is not digitally enhanced.

The representation of the primeval nature, especially the animals, was based largely on the models of scientific illustrations by Zdeněk Burian.
