József Rippl-Rónai

József Rippl- Ronai (* May 23, 1861 in Kaposvar, † November 25, 1927 ) was a painter of Symbolism and Impressionism late and a pioneer of modernism in the Hungarian painting.

Life

After graduating Rippl- Ronai first completed a study of pharmacy in Budapest. In 1884 he went to Munich to study at the Academy under Johann Caspar Herterich and Wilhelm von Diez academic painting, won a scholarship and two years later was able to go to Paris to work at Munkácsy. In 1889 he lived in Pont -Aven and broke away from Munkácsy. He had his first solo exhibition in 1892 in the Austro-Hungarian Embassy in Paris.

His first major success was the exhibition of the picture my grandmother in 1894 at a Salon de Champ -de- Mars, which earned him the acceptance and inclusion in the group of artists Nabis, which makes it the " Nabi hongrois ". He was in 1899 for a long time guest of Aristide Maillol in Banyuls -sur -Mer and there painted landscapes, seascapes and his host.

He taught at the free art school in Budapest, among others Sándor Bortnyik and István Beöthy, a "school " but he could not justify in Hungary.
