Juan Máximo Martínez

Juan Martinez ( Juan Maximo Martinez, born January 1, 1947) is a retired Mexican long-distance runner.

In 1966 he won the bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in the 10,000 m. The following year he was Central America and Caribbean champion over 10,000 meters and the half marathon and won bronze in the 5000m at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg.

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, he came fourth in the 5000m and 10,000 m.

In 1969 he won the Corrida de São Silvestre Internacional, and 1970 he won at the Central American and Caribbean Games gold in the 10,000 m and silver in the 5000m. At the Pan American Games 1971 in Cali, he came over 10,000 m on the silver rank and just had to admit defeat Frank Shorter doing, and at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, he was the same distance tenth.

Overall, he set three national records in the 5000m and 10,000 m four.
