Jukka Ylipulli

Jukka Petteri Ylipulli ( born February 6, 1963 in Rovaniemi ) is a retired Finnish Nordic skier.

Career

Ylipulli began his sports career as a swimmer, winning once even the title of the Finnish Youth champion before he gave up swimming at age 15 and switched to skiing.

His international debut as a Nordic skier was Ylipulli, who started for Ounasvaaran Hiihtoseura, on December 17, 1983 as part of the World Cup Nordic Combined in Seefeld in Tirol. He reached as 14 right away the points. A few weeks later, he won the individual competition of the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo he the bronze medal.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1984 in his home town of Rovaniemi, he won jointly with Rauno Miettinen in Jouko Karjalainen the silver medal in the team. Also in the season 1984/84 he could end up back in the points in St. Moritz. In January 1985, he succeeded for the first time in Schonach sixth a top 10 placement. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld, he was together with Karjalainen and Jyri Pelkonen third parties and thus won bronze.

In the 1985/86 season he only started in February 1986 in Lahti and missed doing his first podium in fourth just barely. After he also clearly landed in Oslo in the points, he finished the season in 15th place overall. This place succeeded in the 1987/88 season, in which he also with the second rank reached his first and only World Cup podium in Rovaniemi. Subsequently, however Ylipulli could not build on this success. By starting at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1991 in Val di Fiemme, he ended his active career. He was with the team once again occupy the sixth place.

After the end of his active career Ylipulli worked as a trainer combination. From 1991 to 1996 he coached the Finnish junior, before he took over from 1993 to parallel the head coach position of A- squad. From 2001 to 2002 he was the coach of the U.S. team. In 2004 he returned to the coaching job at the Finnish national team.

In his spare time Ylipulli dedicated orienteering. His younger brothers and Tuomo Raimo were successful ski jumpers.
