Julio Cesar Soares Espindola ( born September 3, 1979 in Rio de Janeiro called Júlio César ) is a Brazilian football goalkeeper, who is since 2012 in the Queens Park Rangers under contract, but playing on loan at FC Toronto.

He is a native of Brazil, but also has Italian citizenship.

Career

In the club

Júlio César began his career as a goalkeeper in the youth of Flamengo in his home city of Rio de Janeiro. Only 17 years old he made his debut in 1997 as the first team goalkeeper for Flamengo, as of 2000 he was a regular goalkeeper.

After the Copa América 2004, he moved to 2004/ 05 in the Italian Serie A. He was initially hired for half a year at Chievo Verona. From August 2005 to May 2012 he was goalkeeper of Inter Milan. With Inter César won the Coppa Italia (2006, 2010, 2011 ), the Supercoppa Italiana ( 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 ), the champion (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 ) as well as the Champions League (2010) and the Club World Cup (2010). On November 10, 2009 César extended his contract with Inter until 30 June 2014.

Before the season 2012/13 Inter tried to reduce its spending. Since Julio Cesar did not accept any salary reduction, undertook the Milan Samir Handanovič Udinese as a new goalkeeper, while the Treaty of César was dissolved on 29 August, 2012 by mutual agreement. On the same day he moved to the Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League, where César signed a four -year contract. After relegation to the Football League Championship Júlio César was no longer used.

On February 15, 2014 Julio Cesar joined on loan in the Major League Soccer for Toronto FC.

In the National Team

Júlio César played for various years of Brazilian youth and junior national teams. With the U-17 1997 he was South American champions.

In the Copa América 2004, he was goalkeeper of the Brazilian national team. The Brazilian squad was initially as a B- team, as the big stars like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka and Roberto Carlos were missing, led by Adriano but could the Seleção win the tournament. In the semi-final victory over Uruguay César held at the decisive penalty shoot the fourth and final penalty of the team from Uruguay. Even the final against Argentina was decided with a penalty shoot-out - and again held César a shot. Nevertheless, he was after the tournament being only spare goalie for Brazil. As number two in the Brazilian goal César participated in the 2006 World Cup, behind Dida and Rogério Ceni before.

Following the resignation of César Dida became the number one in Brazilian goal and as such he took part in the 2009 Confederations Cup, which Brazil won by a 3-2 final win over the United States. In early June 2010, he was appointed to the squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. In this tournament, he stood in all five matches of the Brazilian national team, which was eliminated in the quarter-finals, between the posts. One year after the disappointing World Cup running the goalkeeper was appointed by new coach Mano Menezes in the squad for the Copa America in Argentina. Also at the Confed Cup 2013 he was in all the games between the post and won with his team by a 3-0 win against Spain the title. In addition, he was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
