Julio Mario Santo Domingo

Julio Mario Santo Domingo ( born October 16, 1923 in Panama City, Panamá, † October 7, 2011 in New York City ) was a Colombian entrepreneur.

Life

His father was a Colombian banker, and his mother was Beatriz de Pumarejo Vengoechea, Cousin of Colombian President Alfonso López Pumarejo. His childhood was spent in Barranquilla and he studied at the University of Virginia. Domingo succeeded his father in the management of the Santo Domingo Group. That group includes, among others, in Colombia:

  • Caracol TV ( Colombian television station)
  • Caracol TV International
  • Caracol Radio ( sold to PRISA in 2001)
  • Celumovil (mobile phone companies )
  • Cromos (Journal)
  • El Espectador (newspaper)
  • 15 % share of the brewery SABMiller
  • Avianca (airline, in 2004 sold to Germán Efromovich )
  • Bluradio (radio stations).

As the successor to Julio César Turbay Ayala Domingo was dated 27 February 1981 to March 18, 1983 Colombian Ambassador to the People's Republic of China. According to the American Forbes Magazine Domingo was one of the wealthiest Colombians and in 2005 was listed in The World's Billionaires.

Domingo was first marriage with Edyala Braga and his second wife, Beatrice Rocha Dávila ( 1975-2011 ). From the first marriage came the entrepreneur Julio Mario Santo Domingo Braga (1958-2009) and of the second marriage are the sons Alejandro Santo Domingo Dávila and Andrés Santo Domingo Dávila. A grandchild Tatiana Santo Domingo, the daughter of Julio Mario Santo Domingo Braga, married in 2013 Andrea Casiraghi.
