Jürgen Flimm

Jürgen Flimm ( born July 17, 1941 in Giessen, Hesse ) is a German director, actor, director and university lecturer. Since 2010 he has been director of the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden.

Life

Jürgen Flimm grew up in Cologne - Mülheim in Cologne- Dellbrueck ( Thielenbruch ) to the son of a practical physician. Since the father was also theater doctor, the son could go with him to the theater for free. After graduating from high school Deutz Schaurtestraße Jürgen Flimm studied drama, literature and sociology at the University of Cologne. At the studio stage Cologne, a unit of the University, he earned his first practical experience. His opera career began in 1978 with a production of Luigi Nono's " Al gran sole carico d' amore " in Frankfurt. Since then he has worked on many opera houses, such as La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, the Hamburg State Opera, the Zurich Opera House, at the Bayreuth Festival and the Salzburg Festival.

Since October 2006, directs Jürgen Flimm the Salzburg Festival. From 2009 he is a consultant to the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden, whose directorship he has taken from 2010 for five years.

As a television director Flimm was in two episodes of the series " One heart and one soul " and " Whoever comes too late - The Politburo experienced the German revolution " in the documentary (1990 ) worked. Even as an actor, he took part in various productions, such as two "Tatort " episodes.

As a university teacher worked Jürgen Flimm at Harvard University, New York University and a professor at the University of Hamburg.

Family

1969 married Flimm his fellow actress Inge Jansen. Since 1990, he is married to the film producer Susanne Ottersbach - Flimm. Flimm's two years older brother Dieter was an architect, musician and designer.
