Jüterbog–Röderau railway

The railway line Jiiterbog - Röderau is an electrified main line in Brandenburg, Saxony -Anhalt and Saxony. It runs from Jiiterbog about Falkenberg (Elster ) to Röderau. There it branches out in an arc triangle and joins the main railway Leipzig- Dresden, Riesa or Dresden. In section Jiiterbog - Falkenberg the route is single track, in the section Falkenberg Röderau twofold.

History

The first years

The Berlin- Anhalt Railway Company was in the 19th century for more than four decades, one of the largest railway company in Germany. A particular concern was the link between Berlin and Dresden for them. After some delays, the route was inaugurated in two stages in 1848. It combines Jiiterbog at the 1841 opened trunk route of Anhalt Railway, the present railway line between Berlin and Halle, with Röderau in Riesa, where the line was connected to the Leipzig- Dresden Railway.

The route mainly served the traffic from Berlin to Dresden. 1875 she got competition from the direct train between Berlin and Dresden, the Berlin- Dresden railway that connected the two cities on the twelve kilometers shorter route via Elsterwerda. By the end of the Second World War, both routes shared the long-distance transport. The most moving about Falkenberg trains were divided into Röderau, a section went on to Chemnitz, the other to Dresden.

Since 1871, the Hall - Sorau - Gubener railway crosses the track in Falkenberg Jiiterbog - Röderau. The train station in Falkenberg became a railway junction in the form of a tower station.

Further development

With the division of Berlin, the long distance traveled to Berlin no longer a pickup station, but on the Berlin outer ring in the eastern part of Berlin. So that the guide on the Anhalt line for the Dresden trains was a detour, it went there from now on exclusively through Elsterwerda. About Falkenberg remained some express trains to Chemnitz ( from 1953 Karl -Marx-Stadt ). After the extension of the railway line Riesa- Elsterwerda disappeared in the early 1970s, these trains from the track on Falkenberg. They only served the freight and regional transport. The only higher-quality train was an express train Dresden- Falkenberg -Dessau (later Köthen ). , And back on Fridays and Sundays

The end of 1986 was the electrical operation between Falkenberg and Röderau, incorporated in the year 1989 between Jiiterbog and Falkenberg.

After the turn improved for the northern section Jiiterbog - Falkenberg access to Berlin. The trains were harmonized with and directly tied to Berlin. Demand in the southern sector of the border to Riesa, however, took off more and more. For December 2004, passenger services were canceled on this section due to traffic Oberelbe. A year later there was again a short time long-distance passenger traffic on this section. Due to roadworks on the route Berlin- Elsterwerda the inter-regional line was 14 (the last German InterRegio line) between Berlin and Chemnitz diverted via Falkenberg in the winter timetable 2005/2006. The trains ran between Riesa and Berlin- Schönefeld Airport without stopping.

Due to construction work other long-distance trains were diverted on the route Röderau - Falkenberg - Jiiterbog to September 2006, including many Euro - City trains on the Berlin- Dresden- Prague. Especially in the southern section, various speed restrictions had a negative impact on the punctuality of trains, such as the Neubuxdorf station could be passed only at 20 km / hr.

The section Jiiterbog - Falkenberg is RE5 connected in 2011 every two hours with the regional express trains on the line with Berlin. On the southern sector nowadays there are no scheduled passenger traffic anymore, only freight trains. Since 2010, the route is used in the course of the extension of the railway line Berlin -Dresden regularly for diversion of puffs of IC / EC line 27 (Berlin- Dresden- Prague). Additional traffic stops, there is no case. The scheduled journey times between Berlin and Dresden maintained in spite of the almost 16 km long travel path.

Northwest of Herzberg ( Elster) crosses the line on the railway bridge Premsendorf the Schwarze Elster. There are two wooden bridges were built with pillars on which, however, accumulated ice in the winter, which led to dike breaches. Therefore, in 1912 two riveted arch bridges were built of iron without any pillars ( also popularly known as " " Blue Wonder " called ). They scored early in the century 's longest cantilever bridges in Europe. 1945, the eastern bridge was taken as war reparations to the Soviet Union and blasted the western bridge. The destroyed bridge was rebuilt, but since this section is only a single track. In 2013, the decrepit bridge was in turn replaced by a new steel bridge.

The 1995 abandoned breakpoint in cells village was rebuilt in 2013 in a different location and went to the timetable change in December 2013 into operation. The cost of the 140 m long platform amounted to 290,000 euros.
