KAA Gent

The KAA Gent ( Koninklijke Atletiek Associatie Ghent ) is a professional football club based in Ghent, Belgium. The club was founded on 1 January 1898 and currently playing in the Jupiler Pro League.

The KAA Gent played until the end of the 2012/13 season in 1920 opened Jules Otten Stadium, which seats 12,919 spectators offers. Originally a new stadium of the club should be completed in 2006. However, the construction was started by a delay in the award of planning permission until March 2008. After further delays the opening of the Ghelamco Arena could be celebrated on July 17, 2013. The new home offers 19,999 spectators to be seated.

The jerseys of the club, which is also called " Buffalo " are blue and white.

From the 2008/ 09 season, the former Belgian goalkeeper Michel Preud'homme world coached the KAA and thus became the successor of the Norwegian Trond Sollied. With Preud'homme the Team 2010 won the Belgian Cup and finished third in the championship.

After Michel Preud'homme was announced in the summer of 2010, his move to the Dutch champions FC Twente Enschede, Franky Dury was appointed coach of KAA Gent. But after one season, he was replaced by Trond Sollied, who had already twice been coach in Ghent in recent years.

By the third place in the 2009/10 season KAA Gent played in the 2010/11 season in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. In the third qualifying round the team was eliminated by Dynamo Kiev favorites. Gent played in the play- offs for the Europa League. There was a surprise when Feyenoord Rotterdam was turned off. KAA Gent was now for the first time in a decade in the European Cup. The team also stood first in the group stage of a UEFA competition.

2012/13 eliminated the FC Differdange 03, wherein Ghent was against this team in the second leg surprisingly long time back.
