Cold Mountain is a municipality in Upper Austria in Freistadt district in Upper Austria with 616 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Freistadt.

Geography

Cold Mountain is located at 842 m altitude in the Upper Austria. The expansion is 5.4 kilometers from north to south and from west to east 6.4 km. The total area is 17.1 km ². 6.1% of the area is forested and used 10.5 % of the area for agriculture.

History

Cold Mountain was founded on the grounds of the former Cold Berger- Guts from which the modern name of the municipality was derived. The emergence of location is closely connected with the pilgrimage. About 300 meters north of the center is the original chapel to the pilgrimage every year numerous pilgrims. Due to the large number of pilgrims a branch church of the parish Unterweißenbach was built by the rule Ruttenstein, consecrated in 1658.

Since 1785 Cold Mountain is a separate parish and enlarged 1798-1803 the church to its present size. The statue of Mary, whose age is estimated at 500 years, is at the high altar. Cold Mountain was the second largest Marian shrine in Upper Austria.

It was not until 1921 Cold Mountain was established as a separate municipality by the present municipality was separated from Unterweißenbach. In 1938 the municipality was reunited with Unterweißenbach 1947 but restored. The restoration was carried out, because cold mountain can survive without lasting financial aid. After the Second World War with the development of infrastructure, 1968, the municipal coat of arms was granted. The village belonged to end 2002 for the judicial district Unterweißenbach and was assigned to the judicial district of Freistadt January 1, 2003.

Development and Structure

In 1869, 630 people lived in the municipality. By 1971 the population of the highest level in history grew to 701 inhabitants. Since 1971, the population decreases, which is probably due to the remote location. In 1991 the community had 666 inhabitants at the 2001 census only 655, which represents a decline of 1.7%. On 1 January 2008 the municipality experienced 641 inhabitants.

At the 2001 census, the proportion of residents who were 60 years and older, 16.8% was; 22.9% were under 15 years old. The proportion of the female population was 48.1 %.

Of the 505 residents of Cold Mountain, which in 2001 were over 15 years old, 2.2% had completed a university, college or academy. Additional 4.6% had completed a Matura, 39.2 % had attended a teaching degree or a vocational middle school, and 54.1 % of all cold Berger had compulsory school as their highest degree.

Ethnicity and language

The German dialect that is commonly spoken in the room as well as cold mountain in Upper Austria, is the means Bairische. 99.7 % of cold Berger gave in 2001 to German as their language. The remaining 0.3 % spoke other languages ​​.

Policy

The council and mayoral elections are held every six years, coinciding with the state election held. Since the year 1945, the ÖVP always reached an absolute majority, 1949-1973 always 100%. The second strongest party was between 1985 and 1997 always the SPÖ, the party did not appear to 2003. The FPÖ occurs sporadically, most recently in 2003 and became the second largest party. 2003, the ÖVP was the strongest party with 87.7 % agree and ruled by an absolute majority. The Volunteer Fire Department Cold Mountain has a close connection to the German partner firefighters Lünen.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows in gold over three green, the ascendant sign foot peaks a blue heraldic lily. The lily, attribute of the Mother of God, shows the importance of community as a place of pilgrimage. The green tops symbolize the forest wealth of the community. The municipality colors are yellow - green.

Traffic routes

Cold Mountain is crossed by the northern forest ridge - country road (L 579 ) from east to west. On the eastern edge of the municipality is the cold Berger district road (L 1448 ) leads from north to south.

The supra-regional hiking and pilgrimage route leading from Johannesweg Weitersfelden Coming through the main town on to Unterweißenbach.

Public Institutions and Education

In the resort, a kindergarten and a primary school are available. In addition there is a library.

In the municipality there are two volunteer fire brigades, one in Cold Mountain, the second in Silberberg.
