Kalwang is an Austrian market town with 1063 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the judicial district or county Leoben, Styria.

Geography

The municipality is located in the market town of Kalwang Liesingtal. The mountain ponds, which drained southern mountainous parts of the Alps Eisenerzer flows (partly heavily regulated ) by the cadastral Sonnbergstuben and Kalwang and opens into the Liesing.

History

In 1148 Chichelwanche is first mentioned, and was soon a wealthy Hammer men's and mining community. The Kalwanger also involved in the Peasants' Revolt of 1525. Copper mining in the ponds was from its beginnings in the Middle Ages to 1867, and after a resumption 1916-1928. Local Municipality as an autonomous body created in 1850 and 1929 raised to the market town. After the annexation of Austria in 1938 Kalwang belonged to Reichsgau Styria, 1945-1955 was the market town part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

The hospital Kalwang has existed for 100 years. The landowner Rudolf von Gutmann built it from 1912 to 1914 for its workers and employees. For decades, it is a term as Emergency Hospital Kalwang.

Mayor Mario Angerer (ÖVP ), Vice Mayor Joseph is Geretschnig (ÖVP ), community Treasurer is Clement Draxl (FPÖ ). The council is made up after the elections of 2010 are as follows:

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms took place on 27 March 1929. Coat Description: A blue shield, from whose foot edge grows out of the forward -turned to the right head with the neck of a brown deer. Between the twelve -ended antlers, a high gold cross, from whose angles break forth golden rays rises. Behind the deer head rises a wooded down in paragraphs 3, in the middle beraster, top up rocky mountain range. The shield surrounds an ornamented bronze colored edging.
