Proleb [ prɔ'le: p] is a municipality in the district court or the district of Leoben ( Styria, Austria ) with 1561 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) and an area of ​​24.52 km ².

History

It is well established that the area was sparsely populated in Roman times to Proleb. It belonged to the Roman province of Noricum. The name " Proleb " was first documented in the 12th century; a " community Proleb " was first mentioned in 1891, the oldest session records dating from that year.

End of the 19th century, especially agriculture, forestry and coal mining in the nearby Seegraben (a district of Leoben ) determined the lives of the residents. A settlement in Nuchtenschacht housed mainly the miners with their families and in today's local area of ​​Proleb some farms were located. The eastern district Köllach was inhabited mainly by charcoal burners, from which is derived the name.

After the Second World War Proleb had only around 900 inhabitants. Its location on the border town of Leoben, the place but quickly developed into a popular residential community, and the population has since risen steadily easily.

Regional Policy

Proleb part of the LEADER region Styrian Iron Road and November 18, 2009 Regionext small Murtal to Leoben. At the municipal structural reform 2010-2015 Proleb leads merger talks with Niklas village, but remains perhaps independently as a community.
