Karel Schoeman

Karel Schoeman (* October 26, 1939 in Trompenburg, Orange Free State ) is a South African writer afrikaanssprachiger.

Life

Schoeman studied linguistics at the Universiteit van Oranje - Vrystaat and then attended the Catholic seminary in Pretoria. In 1961 he was a member of the Order of Friars Minor in Ireland with the aim of becoming a priest. He did not put the vows, returned to South Africa in Bloemfontein and studied library science. He then worked from 1968 to 1973 as a librarian in Amsterdam. After spending two years in Glasgow he began to write books and stories. Since 1983 he worked in the South African Library in Cape Town.

Some of his works have been translated into German, English, French, Dutch and translated Russian, including the Na Geliefde country 'n Ander Land, Afskeid en Vertrek and Hierdie Lewe.
