Karl Ferdinand von Graefe

Karl Ferdinand Graefe, in 1826 von Graefe ( born March 8, 1787 Warsaw, † July 4, 1840 in Hannover) was a German physician.

Family

He came from a Saxon family from Radeberg near Dresden ( 1717) and was the son of the Counts Moczinskischen director and house Marshal Carl Graefe ( 1752-1806 ), lord of the manor on Ossa in Dolsk, and Christiane Zschernig ( 1759-1817 ). His father Carl Graefe was raised in 1790 in the Polish personal nobility.

Karl Ferdinand Graefe was on 2./14. February 1826 raised in Saint Petersburg in the Polish hereditary peerage and received his Prussian nobility recognition on 16 November 1826 in Berlin.

Graefe married on October 6, 1814 in Berlin Auguste von Alten ( born May 16, 1797 in Berlin, † November 27, 1857 ibid ), the daughter of the Royal Prussian Privy mountain and Commissioner of City Planning Professor Martin of the Old and the Charlotte Müller from Frankfurt ( Oder). The couple had five children, including daughters Ottilie von Graefe, married to Hermann von Thile and known as a writer under the pseudonym Black Walther become Wanda von Graefe, married to Johann Adolf Sigismund von Dallwitz. One of his sons was the ophthalmologist Albrecht von Graefe ( 1828-1870 ).

Life

Graefe was royally Prussian Privy medical officer and surgeon general of the army, professor of surgery and director of the surgical clinic of the University of Berlin ( Charité). In 1817 he invented a trocar. 1827 operated Grafe Ernst August of Hanover successfully to the eyes. In 1840 he was called to Hanover to operate the blind Crown Prince. Before he could get in touch with the court, he fell ill with " a contentious brain and nervous fever " and died in a hotel in Hannover.

Graefe was the owner, built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel Villa Finkenherd, the northwestern edge of the Berlin Tiergarten, the so-called Hansa quarter was in the middle of a 40,000 m², designed by Lenne Park. Until 1854 Graef Ash House was a favorite haunt of the Berlin Society.

He was inducted in 1808 in the Masonic Lodge to three swords in Halle. The honor of burial shown on the right with a name created by Friedrich Drake bust ( copy) is located in the Division 1, G3 of the cemetery II of Jerusalem and a new parish.
