Karl Müllenhoff

Karl Viktor Müllenhoff ( born September 8, 1818 in Marne, † February 19, 1884 in Berlin) was a German scientist and germanistischer medievalist.

Life

Müllenhoff 1854 Professor of German Literature and History at the University of Kiel and in 1858 Professor of German Philology at the Friedrich- Wilhelms- University ( since 1947 Humboldt University of Berlin). In 1861 he joined the outlaws Society of Berlin. He had his residence until around 1875 in the Schellingstraße 7 (Berlin- Tiergarten), from around 1880 he moved into a house Lützowufer in the same district.

Müllenhoff developed in 1863 the theory of the continuity of the written language since the Old High German period. The written by him, mainly philological aligned German archeology represents a non-negligible contribution to the history of the Germans is, although it was rather indirectly influential and is now outdated by more recent work often. It is considered garbage Hoff's main work, however, is incomplete because other planned volumes never appeared, and up to the first volume of all other published books could not be published by Müllenhoff itself.

In 1884 he was on the old St. Matthew's Cemetery in Berlin- Schöneberg, Großgörschenstraße 12-14, buried. The tomb - a black Syenitobelisk - is obtained.

In June 1896, a scale according to the development plan in Berlin- Kreuzberg the name Müllenhoffstraße.
