Karl Stegger

Karl Stegger ( born January 11, 1913 in Aarhus, † April 13, 1980 in Frederiksberg, actually Carl Johan Sørensen Stegger ) was a Danish actor.

Career

Stegger grew up without a father and lost his mother at age ten. Since his youth, he earned his living in a variety of professions, such as factory workers, fruiterer, chauffeur or gardener. In 1944, he decided on a career as an actor and was accepted at the drama school of Aarhus Teater. From 1951 he worked in Copenhagen and soon on stages all over Denmark.

His screen debut was in 1950 in the film Stegger Smedestræde 4th 1955 he took over the title role in the film series I Spit (father of four ) after the previous lead actor Ib Schønberg was seriously ill and died soon afterwards.

Stegger was seen in the course of his career in 157 movies; added appearances in television productions. After Ove Sprogøe he is thus the Danish actor with the most extensive filmography. He played mostly supporting roles, often in comedies; he was seen in about seven films of the Olsen Gang, including as resourceful scrap dealer Mads Madsen in The Olsen gang goes to Jutland (1971). For his performance in Ballade på Christianshavn he was awarded the 1971 Bodil for Best Supporting Actor.
