Karlobag

Karlobag (Italian Carlopago, lat Vegium ) is a seaside resort in Croatia on the Adriatic Sea and is part of Lika- Senj. ( Caution: risk of confusion with the more northern Karlovac )

Location

Geographically, the town is located underneath the Velebit mountain, opposite the island of Pag in the Velebit channel. Karlobag has about 500 inhabitants. The total community population of 1000 inhabitants.

History

In the 6th and 7th century AD Croats settled in the area. In 925, Karlobag came to the newly formed Kingdom of Croatia under King Tomislav. In the year 1000 the Venetian fleet defeated Croatia. Karlobag and some other eastern Adriatic coastal towns (except Dubrovnik) came temporarily under Venetian administration. King Petar Kresimir IV conquered the city back. After the fall of Venice in 1797 and the short reign of France under Napoleon ( 1809-1813 ), Austria took over the rule of Karlobag and it was assigned to the crown lands of Croatia. In the 18th century Velebit - then called Bag prominent addition to Senj transport and trade center below the Velebit. Later Karlobag came to the Kingdom of Croatia within the Habsburg monarchy. In 1919, Croatia and thus Karlobag in the state of " South Slavs " was integrated (Yugoslavia). Tourism

The place is becoming a magnet for tourists. Karlobag is the starting point for climbers in the Velebit Mountains. Attractions

CUBE ( URA, Kocka - CUBE ) There is a 1.25 mx 1.25 m large sculpted stone that rests on four stone balls.
