Castle Karneid

The little east of Bolzano located Karneid castle was built on a steep, from two sides seemingly impregnable rock hillock and lies about 420 meters above sea level. Built in the mid 13th century and 1297 mentioned castle was an old possession of the Lords of Fie, where the later Governor Henry Gessler and then the counts Liechtenstein followed. In 1884 she was purchased by the Munich ore caster Ferdinand Freiherr von Miller. The system basically consists of dungeon, palace, residential tower, curtain wall with Dovetail battlements and castle chapel, dedicated to St. Anne and has valuable Romanesque frescoes. In the 14th century a kennel was added in the 16th century, the present-day entrance, gate towers and several buildings inside. After the castle in the late 18th century began, some falling into decay, it was set by Baron Ferdinand von Miller and his heirs historically accurate repaired. In 1954, Ferdinand Eugen Karl Maria Luitpold of Malaisé, grandson of Baron Ferdinand von Miller, the castle. Since 1973, now Christoph is Malaisé of the owner. In recent years, further restructuring measures at the castle were carried out by the municipality Karneid. It is based on an agreement between the municipality and the Lord of Malaisé, according to which the castle in return for various restoration measures in the future for some public events is provided (concerts, readings, receptions and others).

Visits are only possible with a guide and refer to the period from April to October. Such requests may be made to the church Karneid. The guided tours take place ( at least ten people) on Fridays at 15.00 each and 16.30 clock clock with a sufficient number of participants.
