Karol - The Pope and man is an Italian movie from the year 2006.

Action

The film covers the years of the pontificate of Pope John Paul II from 1978 to 2005 and begins with the death of eight of the Pope on April 2, 2005. Documentary footage of people waiting before the dying Pope windows are mixed with game sequences from inside the Vatican. After this opening scene, the film tells in chronological order starting with the first sermon of the new Pope, the history of the papacy. The Pope gets to know the Vatican, goes on his first foreign trip to Mexico. The KGB discussed dealing with this pope from the Socialist Poland and must accept that this is traveling to Poland. 1981 an assassination attempt on John Paul. Since these dramatic days with a long operation, the Pope is accompanied on his future life of Dr. Renato Buzzonetti. The film also portrays the close relationship of John Paul to Mother Theresa. When incorporated into the film are subjects of encyclicals of the pope, but also invented encounters, like the one with the Canadian AIDS doctor Julia Knight.

The film ends with the death of the Pope and then changes to documentary footage of the funeral mass.

Background

Karol - The Pope and man is the sequel to the film Karol - A man who became pope. The film premiered on 30 March 2006 at the Vatican. The film then ran in the Italian and Canadian television. In Poland and Mexico, he was successfully shown in cinemas.

In the German television film first aired on 26 and 27 October 2007 at ARTE, unlike its predecessor, the celebrated 2 premiere on RTL.
