Karoonda (South Australia)

Karoonda is a small town in the district of Murray Mallee in South Australia, which is 60 km nortdöstlich of Murray Bridge. The city name comes from the Aboriginal and means Winterkamp. Karoonda 1930 was known as there came down the Karoonda meteorite in November 1930.

The town was proclaimed on December 11, 1913 to the city. It is located in a wheat -growing region, where grazing Merino sheep also. In addition, are agricultural and vegetable growers. Once a year an agricultural fair takes place, the Karoonda Farm Fair, which is visited by over 10,000 visitors. There were also railway links to the site, but these were closed in 1990. Since recently Karoonda is again connected to a railway line.

In the city there is a school, a park and a museum.
