Karsten Braasch

Karsten Braasch (born 14 July 1967 in Marl ) is a former German tennis player.

Tennis career

Braasch won six doubles titles in his career. In the tennis world rankings, he reached his highest positions in 1994 in singles with number 38 and 1997 in a double as number 36 from the year 2000, he took up on the professional tour exclusively in the doubles competition. 1997 and 2004 he reached the quarter -finals at the French Open in doubles. In early 2005 he ended his professional career. Since 2006, he supervised from time to time tennis professionals on behalf of Klaus Langenbach.

For Germany, it came both the Davis Cup and the World Team Championship, which he won at the side of Michael Stich, Bernd Karbacher and Patrik Kuhnen 1994 used. In these competitions, he was doubles partner of Michael Stich, with which in 1997 he also won the doubles title in the Westphalian town hall.

A curious feature in the course of his career was an exhibition match at the Australian Open in 1998 against the two Williams sisters. Serena Williams he defeated 6-1 against Venus Williams and he won 6-2. The game was not taken very seriously by both sides, but it can be seen as an indication of the physical performance differences of women's and men's tennis.

His unconventional way of playing and especially the movement in his serve always ensured a stir on the ATP Tour, and secured him not infrequently the sympathies of the audience.
