Kaspar Ulenberg

Caspar Ulenberg (also Kaspar Ulenberg ) (* December 24, 1549 in Lippstadt, North Rhine -Westphalia, † February 16th 1617 in Cologne ) was a German Catholic theologian, Bible translator, poet and composer.

Life

Caspar Ulenberg came from Protestant parents. He attended schools in Lippstadt, 1567 the High School in Brunswick and graduated from April 25, 1569 at the University of Wittenberg philosophy and theology. After completing his studies, he was temporarily 1570-1571 teacher in Lunden, before he was sent by his family to the University of Cologne, where he signed on 19 October 1572 the matriculation and autumn of the same year converted to the Catholic faith. He finished his studies at March 11, 1574 with the degree of Master of Arts from December 22, 1575 and was a professor at the School Laurentianum in Cologne. In 1576 he was ordained priest and preached in Kaiserwerth. In 1583 he moved back to Cologne and from 1592 was for 22 years director of Laurentianum Gymnasium.

Author

His literary career began in Kaiserwerth with the work of The Psalms of David in all sorts of German singing rhymes brought a very good song book for believers, which was revised and issued to the 19th century and is the most important Catholic contribution to the psalmody of the 16th century. His main work was significant and important causes why the orthodox Catholic Christians remain beständiglich at the old true Christianity to their death, of which there is also a Latin version. In addition, experienced Ulenbergs 1614 Bible translation begun 1630 numerous editions, based on what the Mainz Bible among others. Adolph Gottfried Volusius continued this translation, but a pressure took place.
