Lunden

Lunden ( Low German: Lunnen ) is a municipality in the northern part of the county Dithmar in Schleswig -Holstein. The nearest major towns are the towns of Heath (about 20 km) and Husum (about 23 km).

History

The first mention of Lunden began back in 1140 by the Archbishop of Bremen. The place name probably comes from the Danish " Lunn " ( island -like elevation ) or " Lund " ( small wood ).

1450-1453, and 1484 is the plague after Lunden.

On February 27, 1529 Lunden was awarded by the State Assembly Dithmarsch the municipal law. In 1559, after the peasant republic Dithmar in the last feud came to an end, this right was lost again.

From 1806 to 1816 the well-known Lutheran theologian Claus Harms served as pastor of the place.

In 1885, Lunden had 4064 inhabitants.

Policy

Since the local election in 2013 the SPD has six seats, four seats and the CDU voters Community WGL three seats in the municipal council.

Culture and sights

The biggest attraction of the place is the St. Laurentius church (built in the 12th century, enlarged in 1471 ) with the gender cemetery, on which the last funeral was conducted in 1945. The graves can be seen in part ( the Sulemannen - cellar and the Nannen basement). This is also one of the most important politicians of the peasant republic Dithmar was buried, the Forty- Peter SWYN (1480? -1537 ). In addition to the grave stone stele is obtained on which his assassination depicted.

Legendary figure from Lunden: Karl Müllenhoff ( 1818-84 ), since 1846 Professor of German Studies in Kiel, is a collector of legends, fairy tales and songs of the duchies of Schleswig -Holstein and Lauenburg. In one of these legends we find the figure of Klaus Nanne from Lunden. This is later named the Klaus- Nanne Street in Hamburg.

Since 1975, Lunden is a nationally recognized resort.

The old elementary school was first, then later expanded as a nursery for local history museum; later it was extended to " NaTour -Centrum ".

From the city center it is two kilometers to the Eider ( bathing place Wollersum ).
