Arkebek is a municipality in the district of Dithmarschen in Schleswig-Holstein.

Geography

The village is located on the regional road 316 between the municipalities and village Albers Nordhastedt.

The municipality consists of the Arkebek center and the districts Arkebeker field and giant Wahld.

History

Arkebek was first mentioned as Erkebeke in 1447 ". Erke " is the Low German word for a military or a small lock. Thus, the name means something like " Bach with a weir ."

In 1939, an iron sword from the 8th century was found in a gravel pit. It probably comes from a destroyed Saxon grave. Arkebek has 30 listed hill and stone graves which are all, like pearls on a string, on the county road 40 ( Albers village - Schrum ) lie. The northernmost six hill located in the grounds of the training area " giant".

Policy

Since the local elections of 2008, the voters Community KWV has all nine seats in the municipal council. In the election on May 26, 2013, the KWV won five constituency seats and four list positions; it is thus again the full council.

Economy and infrastructure

Of the once 25 after the Second World War based Arkebek agricultural holdings are 60 years later only five available. This shows the change that the community has been through. The place has developed from a farming village to village living for the workers and employees of the larger neighboring community Albers village and the nearby heath.

Public institutions

Arkebek was a location of the Bundeswehr, with 20 employees operating a radio tower deposed a range of telecommunications sector 111 of the Armed Forces base here.

Traffic

The Federal Highway 23 runs through the municipality, the junction Albers village is the closest.
