Barkenholm

Barkenholm is a municipality in the district of Dithmarschen in Schleswig-Holstein.

Geography

The lowest point in the municipality is less than 70 inches, the highest 14 meters above sea level.

History

Was first mentioned in writing in the community as edema Dorpe Birkeholm, in any application the Dithmarsch put forward against the Schauenburger Count Adolf VIII. In his most recent failed conquest he should have done a damage of 800 marks in the community.

The community was dominated by agriculture. In 1560 there were eight farmers who rye, oats and buckwheat cultivated. A map of 1775 shows that only the Geest areas were farmed; the great marsh, forest and buckling areas lay fallow. In the 19th century the moors were reclaimed, developed briefly a brick industry. From 1807 housed up in the 1960s Barkenholm one room school, where all children of the village received their basic training. Today in the town of four farmers; Trade and Industry have long since disappeared.

Policy

The last municipal election was held on 26 May 2013. Since the local elections in 2013, the voters Community WGB all seven seats in the municipal council.

Economy and infrastructure

From 1905 to 1937, the town had a railway connection with the circular path Norderdithmarschen.
