Katy Gallagher

Katy Gallagher ( born March 17, 1970 in Weston Creek, Australian Capital Territory ) is an Australian politician.

Life

Gallagher grew Weston Creek district of Canberra and attended Melrose High School and Stirling College. She graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Sociology at the Australian National University from.

She was initially employed as a social worker and worked with disabled children. From 1994 to 1997 she worked as a lawyer for the People First ACT, a support organization for the mentally disabled. Gallagher took part in the labor movement and worked as a case manager and organizer in the Public Sector Union. She is a member of the Australian Labor Party and, since May 16, 2011 Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT ), and thus also mayor of the capital, Canberra.
