Geographical location

Kazan type (Ukrainian and Russian Казантип, Tatar Qazantıp ) is a protruding into the Sea of ​​Azov Cape and forms the northernmost point of the Kerch peninsula on the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine.

The name comes from the Crimean Tatar name " Qazan tüp ", meaning " bottom of a vessel " with respect to its concave profile.

Geography

Cape Kazan type is about 10 km northeast of the city Scholkine, 60 km west of Kerch and 150 km northeast of Simferopol and belongs administratively to the Lenine Raion of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The Cape is the northern tip of a peninsula separating the Bay of Kazan type of Arabat Bay. The northern part of the peninsula is connected to the southern part by a narrow sandy isthmus with a width of about 1.5 km.

The largely covered by steppe cape with a diameter of about 3-4 km has a maximum height of 106.5 m and an average height of 30-40 m. The height of the soil is 20-30 m above sea level. At the cape, there is a lighthouse and on the eastern half of the cape are the ruins of a settlement dating from the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC

Conservation

Already in 1998, a 4.5 km ² nature reserve was established ( Kazantyp nature Sapowednik ) in Kazan type, and since 2004 is the Cliff complex cape Kazan type with an area of ​​251 ha nature reserve under the Ramsar Convention. [Note 1]

Named after the Cape festival of electronic dance music was Kazantip 1997 to 1999 a few miles south of the cape in the unfinished building of the never- grid connections Crimean nuclear power plant instead.
